If “volver” [in Spanish] means, “to return,” why doesn’t “evolve” mean what “devolve” does, and vice-versa?

Piece of Cheese
What would you do for a piece of cheese?
Well I’d…
Walk across the water and I’d hop aboard a steamboat and I’d make myself spaghetti and a big ol’ cuppa tea.
I’d write y’all a letter and I’d tell y’all I’m hungry and I’d stick some postage stamps on me and mail me cross the sea.
I’d steal some ’spensive doorknobs and I’d eat a piece of pizza but I’d wouldn’t kick a kitten, no, not even for money.
I’d slay an angry tiger and I’d ride a bucking pony and I’d…Umm, that’s pretty much it. How about you? Well…

When the Pawn
When the pawn takes his place at the side of the knight
With his sword, he is ready and willing to fight.
As he stands there protecting the king and the queen,
He watches his comrades fall down to their knees.
As the enemy captures them, waiting for more,
He sees they fight an unwinnable war.
He watches the pawn on his right take a hit,
Then fall to the ground and reluctantly quit.
He makes up his mind that they can win this war,
Because he found a goal that’s worth fighting for.
it’s not glory or fame, or even the gold.
It’s something more perfect, that he cannot hold.
Of course it’s not love, that reason’s for wimps.
He fights for respect because he deserves it.
He tightens his grip on his sword as he runs,
While the enemy pulls out their AKs and guns.
They shoot down the pawn and they capture the king.
They steal his red cape and they rip off his ring.
And the poor queen is stuffed in a bag filled with rice,
And now the game’s over, it really was nice.
There’s a saying that goes “All’s fair in war,”
But here is a side you have not heard before.
A war between chess pieces and toy soldiers may
Seem fun but it’s not fair, whatever you say.

To Your Heart
Everybody knows that people come and go,
Although some seem to stay.
And those same people have tried to figure and realize
It when they’ve gone away.
So listen to your heart,
Listen to your heart.
Nothing will go wrong,
If you listen to your heart. (x2)
All the faces to a name to cover up ungodly shame.
Too much to comprehend.
And if you try to find the faces left behind,
You’ll never reach the end.
So just listen to your heart,
Listen to your heart.
Nothing will go wrong,
If you listen to your heart. (x2)
